Venturing

Venturing is the young adult program of the Boy Scouts of America for young men and women who have completed the eigth grade, are at least 14 and are not yet 21. Youth members of Venturing are called venturers; adult leaders are called Advisors. The youth leader is called a president. A unit is called a crew.

What a Venturing crew does is limited only by the imagination and involvement of the adult and youth leaders and members of the crew: climb a mountain, teach disabled people to swim, produce a play, and/or pursue the Ranger, Quest and/or Silver awards.

Teen Leaders' Council in Old Baldy Council is a councilwide group of Venturing youth officers. With council approval and under the direction of an adult advisor, the Teen Leaders' Council plans councilwide Venturing activities.

Awards in Venturing provide youth with the opportunity to focus on areas of their interest. There are a series of three awards, the Bronze, Gold, and Silver Awards, which can be earned in sequence by all venturers, no matter their specialty; the Ranger Award, which is specifically for Outdoor/High Adventuring activity; the Quest Award, which is specifically for Fitness and Sports; and within a year, a new religious award.

Additionally, councils, areas/regions, and the BSA National Council can present the Venturing Leadership Award to venturers and adults who have made exceptional contributions to Venturing and who exemplify the Venturing Code (application form).
